Enrolments

Before you begin

This page is for domestic student enrolments. If you are enquiring as an international family, please visit our International Students page for the correct process, fees, documentation, and support information.

Enrolling at Waimairi is a clear, supported process. Our office team will help you understand what is required, what documents to provide, and what happens before your child starts.

The enrolment process

Confirm that your home address is within our school zone. If it is, you can proceed with the enrolment process.

Fill in and submit the online enrolment form.

Once your enrolment form has been received, you will be sent an email acknowledging it. This email may also include information about our New Parent Orientation and visit dates for your child. Visits are scheduled for the two weeks before your child is set to begin school.

You will be invited to attend our New Entrant Orientation in Week 7 of the term before your child starts school. During the session you will:

  • Hear from our New Entrant teaching team
  • Enjoy a guided tour of the school led by our Year 6 student leaders
  • Meet other families whose children will be starting school at the same time as your child

If you would like to discuss your child before their start date or orientation — for example, if they are receiving early intervention support, or there is anything else you would like us to know — please email the school office to arrange a meeting with our New Entrant Team Leader.

New Entrant Enrolments

Starting school is a big milestone for children and families.

If your child is starting school for the first time, we encourage you to contact us before their fifth birthday so we can guide you through the process and help prepare for a positive start.

We will let you know what needs to happen before their first day, what to bring, how school routines work, and how we support children as they move from early childhood into school life.

Transferring from Another School

If your child is joining Waimairi from another school, we will work with you to understand their current learning, friendships, strengths, and any support needs.

A smooth transition matters. The more we know before your child starts, the better we can help them feel settled, connected, and ready to learn.

What happens after enrolment is confirmed

Once your child’s enrolment is confirmed, the school will provide the practical information you need before they start.

This may include details about:

  • Start date and arrival time
  • Class placement
  • School hours
  • Stationery or learning materials
  • Hero app access and school communication
  • Key contacts for questions before the first day
  • Uniform or clothing expectations, if applicable
  • Lunches or food at school
  • Attendance and absence reporting
  • After-school care or local support options, if available

If anything on this list feels unclear, our office team is glad to talk it through before your child’s first day.

Supporting Your Child's Start

A good start is not just about paperwork.

The Detail

  • We take time to understand each child before they begin
  • Families are encouraged to share anything that will help us support a settled transition
  • Teachers and staff help children learn routines, make connections, and feel part of the school community
  • If additional support is needed, we will work with you to plan the right next steps

International Enrolments

International enrolments follow a separate process.

If your child will be enrolling as an international student, please visit the International Students page for information about programme options, tuition fees, documentation, pastoral care, insurance, designated caregivers, and enrolment through the Enroller Platform.
